Jewish-born and raised Yanni Hufnagel is one of the nation’s top assistant coaches. Yanni Hufnagel is currently the Nevada Wolf Pack’s assistant coach. Nevada hired him two months ago, where his is coaching under head coach Eric Musselman. Yanni Hufnagel has been drawn to coaching since he was a child.
Yanni Hufnagel hails from Scarsdale, New York, where he began his career in basketball as a commentator calling games for his local public television. As a child he would read books on coaching and bring the plays to life using basketball action figures. He later became a basketball manager at Cornell University. While at Cornell, he received an opportunity for a summer internship with the NBA’s New Jersey Nets. Once he graduated from Cornell, Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel hired him to be an assistant coach.
Yanni Hufnagel would later become a volunteer assistant coach at Harvard, where he immediately hit the road to recruit players for the team. Yanni became very successful salesman, convincing players to play for his team. As a result of his successes, Yanni received multiple job offers from a handful of colleges including assistant coaching or head coaching positions. Yanni Hufnagel has become well known in the basketball world by his successes across the country.
Yanni Hufnagel received his bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell. He would then later earn a Master’s Degree in Adult Higher Education from Oklahoma. He has become well respected in the basketball world.
Yanni Hufnagel has worked at some of the most elite basketball schools around including Cornell, Oklahoma, Harvard, Vanderbilt, California and now Nevada. Yanni Hufnagel continues to turn these schools around and make them winners. He continues to receive praise from the head coaches he works with, drawing attention from others around the country.
